We are thrilled to announce that the University of Iowa’s Prevention Research Center for Rural Health (PRC-RH) has been awarded a $5 million renewal grant from the CDC! This funding will support vital research and interventions to enhance health in Midwestern rural communities over the next five years.
🔬 About the PRC-RH:
Located at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, the PRC-RH is dedicated to addressing the unique health challenges faced by rural areas, which cover 97% of U.S. land yet receive less attention and funding. Their work is crucial in combating higher rates of chronic diseases and promoting health equity.
🌈 New Focus Areas:
This funding cycle will especially benefit LGBTQIA+ individuals in rural settings, aiming to reduce health disparities by increasing access to Tobacco Quitline services and other supportive care. This initiative will be led by esteemed professors Mark Vander Weg and Aaron Seaman.
🤝 Community Impact:
We’re proud to share that Dr. Jimmy Reyes, Executive Director of MyHealthIowa-MiSaludIowa, serves on the Advisory Board for PRC-RH, helping guide these impactful projects.
Let’s support and celebrate this significant step toward improving public health in our communities!
