🌟 Exciting News for Our Community! 🌟

myhealthiowa

We are thrilled to share that Dr. Jimmy Reyes, Executive Director of MyHealthIowa-MiSaludIowa, was recently featured in a news story about an important pilot project aimed at promoting cognitive health and early detection of Alzheimer’s and dementia in the Latino community.

Across the U.S., the Latino community is disproportionately affected by these conditions. Hispanic Americans are 1.5 times more likely to have dementia than whites, and many face barriers to receiving culturally relevant and trusted health care.

In collaboration with Broadlawns, the Polk County Health Department, and the University of Northern Iowa, this pilot project trains Community Health Workers from within the Latino community to provide educational sessions and early detection screenings. This approach ensures that care is both trusted and effective, breaking down barriers to healthcare access.
